Upgrading Affirmation Works iPhone App

Glenn CrownoverApril 17, 2012
As most of you know, version 2.0 of the Affirmation Works! app for iPhone/iPad was released a few days ago and is now available at the iTunes App Store.

This was a big update, as it was the first to incorporate downloadable affirmations.  Many new users have joined recently which is very exciting. This is shaping up to be a very successful enhancement to the product!

However, we were receiving reports that some folks were losing their custom affirmations after upgrading from older versions!

This was a very unacceptable situation, so we researched the issue and discovered that Apple had changed its policy regarding user data storage.  For those interested in the more technical details, Tim Anderson summarized the issue pretty well .

Most importantly, here is what we have done about it, and what can you do to protect your affirmations in future upgrades:

The Fix

We have integrated the localstorage fix in a new version 2.1.  Once approved by Apple, you will want to upgrade. This should recover any lost affirmations - though oddly, you will need to run the program twice to do so:

  1. After upgrading, run Affirmation Works!
  2. Fully quit the application (double-click home, then "kill" the Affirmation Works app by finding it along the bottom task panel, pressing and holding it until it "shakes", then clicking the red circle with a "-" in it.)
  3. Run Affirmation Works! again.
I wish to sincerely apologize to those who have been inconvenienced by this issue. I realize these are very personal and that often quite a bit of effort goes into writing them. Had I been aware of this new Apple policy, we would have proceeded differently.  And I should have been aware of it.

Future Proofing

With version 2.1 your affirmations will be backed up along with the rest of your iPhone, either into iCloud, or on iTunes (depending on your personal backup settings).

And additionally, we have included a new feature with version 2.1 that allows you to email all of your affirmations to yourself. This way you can be 100% certain you will never lose an affirmation again!  This also may come in handy for emailing several affirmations to a friend (or even to us, if you wish to contribute !)

We hope users of the new 2.0/2.1 version are enjoying the new additions and we look forward to planning for the next release.  Be sure and let us know if there are any features in particular that you would like to see - we love getting user feedback!

Hello,
In the new version could i please request a feature of password security.
Our own defined affirmations are private and would like to have password protected .

Another feature request is the we should be able to move the category list up/down  via edit option. This is the standard feature with iPhone apps.

thanks

Thanks for your comment iqbal.  We plan to continue to make enhancements to the app, and your suggestions are both on the "TODO list"!

I am a new user and i for some reason, was expecting some kind of reminder set - to help me remember to do the affirmation. Would prefer a pop-up that takes me directly to the affirmations at a pre set time (my one set time)

Hi Helen - thanks so much for downloading our app and taking the time to comment here.

Your expectation of a reminder is a sensible one - this is a feature we plan to add at some point. Hopefully soon!

Is it possible now, or perhaps in future upgrades, to have the option to have affirmations appear repeatedly at chosen intervals as notifications rather than have to remember to go and access the app? I know a couple of years ago I had an app where you had an option for a new affirmation to appear every time that you went to unlock your phone. I also second the previously made suggestion for the option of password protection.
